This test is for eligible candidates to provide evidence that they possess sufficient underpinning technical knowledge and understanding to gain entry onto the Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification. The test focuses on the core knowledge needed for safe and effective electrical work. It covers how legislation applies in the workplace, how to maintain a safe working environment, and how to recognise and manage hazards. Candidates will also need to understand how to prepare for installing wiring systems, follow correct electrical practices, and know the characteristics of supply systems, consumer equipment, earthing, and protection. It also includes the basics of electrical principles, how different properties affect circuits, and how electrical components operate. Candidates will be expected to understand wiring applications, electrical systems, the design process, and the correct procedures for safe isolation, testing, and commissioning. The test also requires application of BS 7671 and using the IET On-Site Guide to ensure installations meet safety and regulatory standards.
After successfully completing the test candidates are then able to enrol on the City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification (2346-23) or other AO alternative, this must be within six months.
The test has been developed with The Electrotechnical Skills Partnership (TESP).
Registration period validity and resit policy Registration is valid for 30 days. Candidates are permitted a maximum of two resits within the 30‑day registration period.
