Initial Verification & Periodic Inspection (City & Guilds 2391-52)

CCTS runs the City & Guilds 2391-52 (which combines the formerly known City & Guilds 2394 & 2395) RQF Level 3 Award in Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations & the Logic Certification equivalent Initial Verification and Inspection and Testing combined. The training course is for experienced electricians who wish to inspect and verify their own work.

  • Course overview

    CCTS runs the industry recognised City & Guilds 2391-52 (formerly known as City & Guilds 2394 & 2395 combined) RQF Level 3 Award in Initial Verification  of Electrical Installations and Periodic Inspection & Testing or the recognised Logic Certification equivalent . This Testing and Inspection training course is for experienced electricians who wish to verify their own electrical installations. This qualification, replaces the City & Guilds 2394 & 2395  Initial Verification & Periodic Inspection of Electrical Installations qualification.

    The new RQF qualifications mean that electricians can combine both courses and complete the City & Guilds 2391-52.

    The cost of the course includes training, assessment and the certification fee.

    The City & Guilds course involves a practical assessment and an on-line exam. The Logic Certification assessment involves a practical assessment &  is open book and is a paper exam that will be completed as part of the course. 

    LCL Awards is an OFQUAL approved Awarding Organisation.  The qualification is recognised by the Joint Industry Board (JIB) and Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) and is a direct equivalent of the City & Guilds 2391.

    Recognised by Competent Person Schemes such as NAPIT, NICEIC, STROMA 

  • Entry Requirements

    Operatives should hold the City & Guilds 2382 17th Edition Wiring Regulations or equivalent and must have a practical working knowledge of both domestic and commercial electrical installations including 3 phase installations. Operatives should have on site experience of periodic inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations, using suitable test equipment and the completion of the relevant forms as per BS7671 including Minor Works Electrical Installation Certificates and Full Electrical Installation Certificates

  • Course content/Syllabus
    • Understand the requirements for completing the safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations
    • Understand the requirements for the use of test instruments used to carry out inspection and testing of electrical installations
    • Understand the requirements for completing the inspection of electrical installations
    • Understand the requirements for testing before circuits are energised
    • Understand the requirements for testing energised installations
    • Understand the requirements for the initial verification, testing and commissioning of electrical installations
    • Understand the requirements for the completion of electrical installation certificates and associated documentation
    • Be able to confirm safe systems of work and the suitability of the electrical installation for initial verification
    • Be able to test electrical installations prior to them being placed into service
    • Be able to complete and report the outcome of the initial verification and issue the electrical installation certificate to the client
    • Be able to commission the electrical installation
    • Understand the requirements for periodic inspecting and testing of electrical installations.
    • Understand the requirements for the completion of electrical installation condition reports and associated documentation.
    • Be able to confirm safe systems of work and the suitability of the electrical installation for periodic inspection and testing.
    • Be able to carry out testing of electrical installations
    • Be able to complete and report the condition of the electrical installation to the client.

    The course includes the following assessments:-

    • A practical assessment
    • On-line exam (City & Guilds) or 2 short response written examination papers which are open book (LCL)

  • Reading Material/Test book Required?

    Operatives must purchase a copy of the IET Guidance Note 3 on Inspection, Testing and Certification as this forms an essential part of the underpinning knowledge for the written and practical assessments. A copy of the  IET Guidance Note 3 on Inspection, Testing and Certification manual as well as other electrical training manuals such as the IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition Wiring Regulations can be purchased from us or cheaper online. We will have training copies in the centre for  your use.
