Course Overview

Candidates can choose to complete the advertised update CPD training  only or attend the full course which includes a seperate 2hr online exam, which if sucesfull will lead to update certificate 2382-26. If you are booking online, final prices, including any VAT, will be shown at the end of  your shopping basket journey. Please be aware that if you choose to complete all the sessions from the Parent course that the 60 online questions will include your knowledge of the entire BS Standards and not just the additions. You will be asked to produce your proof of previous 18th Edition 2382-22 qualifications before being registered for the course

    18th Edition Amendment 4 Release: BS 7671 Update April 2026

    Amendment 4 to BS 7671 was published on 15 April 2026, bringing major updates to the Wiring Regulations. Learn what’s changing and how to stay compliant.

    18th Edition Amendment 4: Official Release Confirmed for April 2026

    The next major update to the IET Wiring Regulations is now confirmed. The IET and BSI have officially signed off Amendment 4 (2026) to BS 7671:2018, with publication scheduled for 15 April 2026. This update will be a significant shift for UK electricians, introducing new requirements aligned with emerging technologies and modern electrical installations. [theiet.org]

    Once published, Amendment 4 can be implemented immediately, and the existing version — BS 7671:2018 + A2:2022 + A3:2024 — will be withdrawn six months later.

    If you already hold the 18th Edition (City & Guilds 2382-22), you won’t need to retake the full qualification, but you will need to update your knowledge to stay compliant with the latest wiring standards. Keeping your knowledge current demonstrates:

    • Professional competence
    • Safe working practice
    • Up-to-date installation methods
    • Compliance with legal frameworks such as EAWR 1989

  • Do I need this course?

    This qualification is primarily aimed at practising electricians with relevant experience and other allied professionals eg surveyors, consultants and other trades needing to update and enhance their understanding of IET Wiring Regulations.
    It is also suitable for anyone wishing to demonstrate an understanding of the IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).

    You may wish to complete the one day CPD upgrade if you have the old City & Guilds 2382-22 and wish to demonstrate your competence in the new regulations

    Key Changes in Amendment 4 (2026)

    1. New Requirements for Stationary Secondary Batteries

    With battery energy storage systems becoming increasingly common in homes, commercial buildings, and renewable installations, Amendment 4 introduces a dedicated chapter defining safe installation and operation requirements.

    1. Functional Earthing & Bonding for ICT Equipment

    As ICT and smart technologies continue to expand, the regulations now include a new section detailing functional earthing and equipotential bonding for communication and data systems.

    1. Dedicated Section for Power over Ethernet (PoE)

    PoE is rapidly growing across smart buildings, security systems, and digital devices. Amendment 4 provides clearer guidance on safe PoE design and installation.

    1. Major Revision to Section 710: Medical Locations

    Healthcare environments require extremely precise electrical safety standards. A full update to Section 710 includes new testing schedules for supplementary protective bonding resistance.

    1. Amendment 3:2024 Now Integrated

    Instead of remaining as a standalone bolt-on, Amendment 3:2024 is now embedded directly into the main BS 7671 document.

    1. Continued Alignment with International Standards

    The UK continues to harmonise with European and global electrical standards through further adoption of CENELEC HDs and IEC requirements.

    When Do Electricians Need to Comply?

    You can begin working to Amendment 4 from 15 April 2026 (City & Guilds 2382-26 – Orange Book), and after a six-month transition period, the previous edition (City & Guilds 2382-22 – Brown Book) will be withdrawn and replaced by (City & Guilds 2382-26 – Orange Book)

    This applies to:

    • New low-voltage installations
    • Additions and alterations
    • Periodic inspection and testing

  • Need Extra time to revise? & approximate Certification Times

    Please Note: Your exam will normally take place at the end of the course. However, if the tutor or assessor agrees that additional study time is required, you may be offered the option to return at the end of the next available course. Please inform your class tutor if you believe you need additional time so this can be discussed. For more information refer to our website Terms & Conditions of Service.

    Our aim and KPI (Key Performance Indicator) is to achieve successful candidate certification within 30 working days from completion of exams/assessments, receipt of all prerequisite information (e.g. past certificates), and payment in full. Certification is subject to final approval by the relevant Awarding Body External Verifier.

  • Reading Material & Text books required?

    Candidates will have all the books made available to them to use whilst training from CCTS Liibrary, which are necessary to complete the course. However we do recommend that candidates purchase, for their own later use the following textbooks which can be purchased from us or seperatley online:-
