• Course Overview

  This course is part of a training module of our full Level 3 Domestic Electrical Installer (Dwellings) which is a full Requlated Qualification. This course is suitable as stand alone Contined Professional Development (CPD)  for operatives (such as OFTEC or Gas Safe Registered engineers) working within the electrical or related industries to enhance their electrical skills and knowledge along with the relevant Health and Safety aspects of working on, or with, electrical installations and equipment. Candidates will undergo theoretical and practical training sessions. This course is recommended for candidates who already have core Health & Safety & related trade experience but who have no previous formal training in domestic wiring. Candidates will carry out simulations in training bays with a fully qualified trainer and gain the confidence in physical wiring activities from the consumer unit to sockets, lighting, fire alarm, boilers etc. found around the average home. The DEI course covers all areas that have been updated or changed since the introduction of the BS7671:2018 the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations. 

• Entry Requirements

  The DEI is suitable for operatives who carry out electrical work as a secondary task i.e. heating installers, bathroom and kitchen fitter’s, builders and domestic appliance fitters / installers

  (Note: As and from 1st January 2025 candidates will be required to have evidence of or complete relevant Health & Safety training prior to certification)

  The Domestic Electrical Installer (DEI2020) Training and Assessment package covers electrical work as outlined in the Building Regulation and complies with BS7671:2018 and amendment 1:2020.

  This course is designed for persons/installers working within the electrical or related industries it is not designed to take a non-qualified / non-related person and is not designed to make them into electricians

  NB: From 1st September 2021 the qualification entry requirements for companies or businesses wishing to join a Part P Competent Person Scheme (CPS) as a “Qualified Supervisor” will be changing. The relevant change is for the designated qualifying supervisor (QS). In a larger organisation, the QS will be responsible for the competence and work of all installers carrying out electrical installations. Sole traders are both the QS and installer.

  The Qualified Supervisor must hold as minimum LCL Awards Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installation Work in Dwellings

  For larger businesses, the DEI qualification can still be used for operatives who are under the direction of the qualifying supervisor. Sole traders must comply with the qualification entry requirement detailed above.

• Do I need this course?

  NB: This course is designed for persons working within the electrical or related industries it is not designed to take a nonqualified/ non-related person and make them into electricians. The Competency is recommended for those who regularly undertake work in domestic properties (which may be notifiable). Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 Technical

  Booklet B 2.7 states “Accreditation of a certification body by a national accreditation body belonging to the European cooperation for Accreditation (EA) provides a means of demonstrating that their certification scheme can be relied upon.

  • Component exchange
  • Applicable building regulations
  • Electrical safety legislation regulations, standards and terminology
  • Pre-work survey / inspections
  • Safe isolation procedures
  • Identification of unsafe electrical situations
  • Earthing and bonding requirements
  • Electrical test procedures
  • Cable components and fitting selection
  • Installation and replacement of electrical components and fittings
  • Checking the correct and safe operation of installed electrical components
  • Recording of electrical test results, completion of certification and notification requirements
  • Installing and or re-routing cables to form suitable outlet connections
  • Special locations
  • High protective conductors
  • Domestic lighting circuits, SELV
  • Maintaining domestic electrical installations
  • 3 Phase supplies

  Please Note: Your exam will normally take place at the end of the course. However, if the tutor or assessor agrees that additional study time is required, you may be offered the option to return at the end of the next available course.   Our aim and KPI (Key Performance Indicator) is to achieve successful candidate certification within 30 working days from completion of exams/assessments, receipt of all prerequisite information (e.g. past certificates), and payment in full. Certification is subject to final approval by the relevant Awarding Body External Verifier.

• Reading Material & Text books required?

  Candidates will have all the books made available to them to use whilst training from CCTS Liibrary, which are necessary to complete the course. However we do recommend that candidates purchase, for their own later use the following textbooks which can be purchased from us or seperatley online:-

  This is the newest Wiring Regulations, replacing the 2022 Brown Book.Updated for all four amendments including:

  • Stationary Secondary Batteries
