  The assessment is designed to assess the knowledge and competences of registered gas installers Ireland and to enable the industry to maintain high standards of practice and above all safety. Candidates will require to purchase the latest IS813 standards

• Entry requirements

  No candidate can take the DGA assessment , unless he has in his possession a current valid RGI identity card

  Each Candidate will need to purchase a copy of IS813 from RGI. We have copies for use during course but you will need a copy for your inspection.

• Do I need this Course?

  Membership of RGII is a legal requirement for any installer wishing to carry out gas work in Ireland

  In accordance with Section C.4.1.2 of the Criteria document, DGA gas safety assessments must be carried out every 5 years

   

  Safety Regulations of Gas Installers

  The Registered Gas Installer (RGI) scheme is operated by the Register of Gas Installers of Ireland (RGII) on behalf of the CRU. RGII was appointed as the Gas Safety Supervisory Body by the CRU and will operate on a not-for-profit basis for the duration of their appointment, 2016 – 2022.

  RGII is responsible for:

  • The day-to-day operation of the RGI scheme as set out in the Electricity Regulation Act 1999, as amended and the Gas Safety Supervisory Criteria Document Version 1.6 (CER/16/222). The Criteria Document sets out the detailed rules and the obligations for participants operating within the RGI scheme.
  • Processing registration applications from gas installers.
  • Ensuring that Registered Gas Installers (RGIs) are assessed on a regular basis to ensure that they are operating in line with the appropriate national safety standards.
  • Distributing and processing the Declaration of Conformance Certificates (Completion Certificates) that an RGI must issue to a customer once the gas works are complete.
  • Resolving queries and investigating complaints received from the public about RGIs.

  The CRU is responsible for:

  • Policy decisions regarding gas safety.
  • The overall operation of the RGI regulatory scheme.
  • Enforcement actions including prosecutions against unregistered gas installers.
  • Review of appeals from applicants regarding registration decisions by the RGII.
  • Review of appeals from complainants regarding complaint handling by the RGII.
