Course Overview

• Course Overview

  OFT10-101 is required for any operative wishing to carry out work on domestic pressure jet appliances. In addition, the operative must hold the relevant tank installation and installation elements applicable to the work they wish to undertake as listed below:-

  • OFT10-600: Domestic & Non-domestic Oil Storage and Supply Installation
  • OFT10-105E: Domestic Oil Firing System Installation and Energy Conservation Measures in Buildings
• Entry Requirements

  Candidates must meet the entry requirements as laid out by Oftec for category 1, 2, and 3 entrants. This could include undertaking the APL (OFT50) training with CCTS.

  
  

  Course prerequisites

  Applicants must provide evidence of either:

  • A recognised qualification or experience in a related trade, such as plumbing, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air-conditioning or gas; or
  • Relevant supervised, on-the-job liquid-fuel installation or maintenance experience, confirmed in writing by an employer.

  Applicants must also complete training at an OFTEC-approved centre and have the current OFTEC Liquid Fuel Technical Manual before training and assessment.

  All evidence is subject to approval by the assessment centre.

  For refresher or re-assessment, candidates must have held the element previously and must bring in a copy of their past Certificate to be assessed (failure to do so will result in the Accreditation body refusing to accept the candidates portfolio)- if this has expired within 12 months of the assessment date the initial assessment must be undertaken.

  This would have an equivalence to Level 3 qualifications.

  • To access more work opportunities Over a million homes use oil heating, especially in rural areas. OFTEC qualification is often required by insurers, employers, and customers.

  • To keep your registration valid If you’re already OFTEC-registered, you must reassess every 5 years to stay compliant and up to date with industry changes.

  ?? What the course actually teaches

  Depending on the module, OFTEC training covers:

  • Oil boiler commissioning & servicing (OFT10-101)

  • Oil appliance installation (OFT10-105E)

  • Oil storage & supply systems (OFT10-600A)

  • Solid fuel systems

  • Heat pump installation & servicing

  These modules allow you to work on domestic and light commercial systems and self-certify your work.

  You need an OFTEC course if you are:

  • A heating engineer working with oil boilers or tanks

  • A plumber expanding into oil systems

  • A new entrant wanting to work in rural heating

  • An existing OFTEC technician needing reassessment

  • A heat pump installer wanting OFTEC accreditation

  If you want to install, service, or commission oil heating systems or oil tanks, and you want to self-certify your work under building regulations, then you need an OFTEC course. It’s the recognised route to competence and registration in the UK and Ireland.

• Need Extra time to revise? & approximate Certification Times

  Please Note: Your exam will normally take place at the end of the course. However, if the tutor or assessor agrees that additional study time is required, you may be offered the option to return at the end of the next available course.   Our aim and KPI (Key Performance Indicator) is to achieve successful candidate certification within 30 working days from completion of exams/assessments, receipt of all prerequisite information (e.g. past certificates), and payment in full. Certification is subject to final approval by the relevant Awarding Body External Verifier.

• Reading Material & Text books required?

  We provide hand out learning material and on site handbooks. You will also have full use of our Centre Library whilst in the training Centre. In accordance with document RCP3, section 4.6.5, we strongly recommend the additional purchase of OFTEC technical publications books.
