The course is particularly useful for candidates moving in to the renewables industry, in particular the installation of ground and air source heat pumps, or for underfloor heating industry where accurate heat loss calculations are of paramount importance. The course will provide a good level of understanding for the design and specification of basic domestic heating systems, as well as size hot water storage cylinders. In addition, heating and hot water design will act as a stepping stone for operatives who wish to go on and complete the IDHEE full diploma. The course is accepted by IDHEE as a unit credit and will save two days attendance on the full diploma course. The course is based upon the CIBSE Domestic Heating Design Guide (DHDG) 2007 ISBN 1 903287 40 5. HWSS has been developed to ensure operatives comply with Approved Document G (ADG) 2010 when carrying out work on hot water systems. Training includes requirements for the installation of G3 Unvented Hot Water Systems and covers systems up to 500 litres capacity and 45kW power input. The Hot Water Systems and Safety certificate is recognised by those Competent Person Schemes (CPS) approved to offer a self-certification scheme under ADG, enabling installers of hot water systems (including Unvented HWS) to self-certify the installation. A certificate in Hot Water Systems and Safety is also required by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies for those looking to be recognised for the installation of Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems.

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the competence of an operative in determining ambient levels of CO and presence of CO2 in dwellings and identifying the cause of fumes using a portable electronic combustion analyser. This will typically be any engineer who responds to the genuine report of a CO alarm being activated or a report of fumes.
